The Amazing Question Step 3
How did it go yesterday? Were you able to pray and care for your neighbor using The Amazing Question?
Why does this work so well? I think there are several important principles.
First, The Amazing Question brings Jesus into the middle of the conversation. Jesus said, “When I am lifted up, I will draw all people to myself.” (John 12:32). Jesus is not focused on what you can give to him. He is focused on what he can do for others. The Amazing Question story shows a beggar who can do nothing for Jesus, but Jesus cares for him. Jesus can give him sight.
Secondly, do you know that you are a member of the priesthood? All believers are members In 1 Peter 2:5, Peter writes that we are all members of the holy priesthood. A little later, Peter writes, “You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light..." (1 Peter 2:9)
We can offer spiritual sacrifices to God through Jesus Christ. Every believer has direct access to God without mediation and each person shares the responsibility of ministering to the others. As a priest, you represent others before God. He hears you and responds. So when you pray for another, you are bringing God into the conversation and taking the person’s needs to the One who loves and cares.
Thirdly, The Amazing Question is also powerful because you are using scripture. God says in Isaiah 55:11 that his word will accomplish what he desires and will achieve the purpose for which he sends it out. So telling the story of the blind beggar who was blessed by Jesus brings the word of God into the conversation. It is powerful.
So use The Amazing Question with confidence and expect God to answer. Check back with your neighbors to expectantly look for God to answer what they have asked Jesus to do for them.
